Terms of Service

These terms apply to all services booked with Sommeil Collective, a business name of Reverie Collective Ltd. ("Sommeil Collective," "we," "us"). By booking or purchasing a service or gift certificate, you ("the client") agree to these terms. Each family also signs a client service agreement before care begins, which sets out the full terms of your booking. If anything in these terms differs from your signed agreement, your agreement applies.

1. Our services

Sommeil Collective provides non-medical postpartum doula support, including overnight newborn care and daytime postpartum support, in the North Okanagan, BC.

2. Non-medical scope

  1. Our services are not medical, nursing or midwifery care. Although our founder is a registered nurse, no nursing care is provided in clients' homes, and no nurse-client relationship is created.
  2. We do not assess, diagnose or treat any condition; give medical advice; or give medication, drops or supplements to parent or baby.
  3. Our services do not replace care from your midwife, doctor, public health nurse, lactation consultant or other health professional. You remain responsible for your own and your baby's medical care.
  4. If we have a concern about the health of a parent or baby, we will inform a parent and recommend contacting an appropriate health professional. In an emergency, we will call 911 and then inform a parent.

3. Parent or guardian presence

A parent or legal guardian must remain in the home for the whole shift. Our services are not babysitting or childcare. Unless agreed in writing, we do not care for older children or pets.

4. Safe sleep

We follow current safe sleep guidance from Health Canada and the Canadian Paediatric Society. We will place babies to sleep on their back in a clear, safe sleep space provided by the family. We will not bed-share, sleep while holding a baby, or place a baby to sleep in a swing, car seat, bouncer, on a couch or on their stomach, even if asked. The family is responsible for providing a safe sleep space.

5. Booking and payment

  1. All packages, One Night Off and Gift Nights are paid in full at booking.
  2. A booking is confirmed once payment is received and your client service agreement is signed.

6. Rates and fees

  1. Current rates are listed on our website and in your service agreement. Prices are in Canadian dollars.
  2. Time beyond the booked shift is billed at $50 an hour, prorated to the half hour.
  3. Care for twins or multiples is an additional $10 an hour.
  4. Bookings made less than 48 hours before the shift carry a $50 short-notice fee, subject to availability.
  5. Travel fees apply outside our home zone: $40 a night for Predator Ridge, Okanagan Landing and Lake Country; $100 a night for Kelowna, with a 3-night minimum.

7. Using package nights and visits

Package nights and day visits are for use within the first six months after your baby's birth. If the parent or baby is admitted to hospital, this period is paused until you are home. Scheduling is subject to availability, so we recommend booking your nights as early as possible.

8. Changes of plan, refunds and cancellations

  1. Before your first night: If your plans change, you may transfer the full amount paid to Gift Nights, day support or later dates, or request a refund of the amount paid less 25%.
  2. After care has started: Packages are non-refundable once your first night or visit has taken place. Unused nights and visits remain available within the period in section 7.
  3. Rescheduling a night: Please let us know as early as possible if you need to move a night. Notice periods and any charges for late cancellation are set out in your client service agreement.
  4. By us: If we must cancel, we will try to provide a trained backup doula. If we cannot, we will reschedule the night or refund it in full.

9. Illness

  1. We will not attend a shift if your doula has symptoms of a contagious illness. We will arrange a backup or reschedule at no charge.
  2. Please tell us before a shift if anyone in your household is unwell. We may reschedule to protect your baby, our team and other families, at no charge to you.

10. Your home

You agree to provide a safe working environment, including working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, a smoke-free and vape-free home during shifts, pets secured away from the care area, and safe access to your home. We may end a shift early if we believe our team member or your baby is unsafe.

11. Gift certificates

Gift Nights are available as One Night Off or the Soft Landing package. They are redeemable for the service purchased, subject to availability and these terms. They are not redeemable for cash.

12. Privacy

We collect only the information we need to provide care, such as contact details, your due date, feeding plans and emergency contacts. We keep it confidential and handle it in line with BC's Personal Information Protection Act. We never share your information or use your name, story or photos (including of your baby) in our marketing without your written consent. For more detail, see our Privacy Policy.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada that apply there.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The version in place when you book applies to your booking.
